Why some People are Good and some are Bad?

For some time now, I have been pondering upon this question day in and day out. Why do we say some people are good whereas others are bad? How do we categorize someone as good or bad?

Then I stumbled upon this conclusion that it is a matter of individual perception. Sometimes it also happens that a person is not liked by most of the others. But for a few of the lot, he or she can be the best person around.

Take for example, Adolf Hitler or Osama Bin Laden. Most of the world hates these men, but they have a huge fan following as well. They were amazing leaders. To lead a bunch of people to perform a good act is easy, but it’s so difficult to persuade thousands of people to do something harmful to others. This means that they were good in some or the other way.

Let’s not talk about Hitler or Laden. Let’s talk about someone in our neighborhood or a colleague. There are people whose activities are not liked by anyone. Probably they are straight forward, blunt and have clear thoughts about things. I have observed, if someone bluntly says “No” to someone’s request, he or she becomes bad. On the contrary, if someone is ready to get exploited by others, he or she is the best person around.

Let’s now take a different angle. There are individuals who extend any kind of help to others but would never help their family. They would care about others’ old parents but would never bother about their own. What do we categorize these people into? Good or Bad. For the whole world, they would be very good, but what do their families think about them?

Categorizing good or bad people is also depended upon the perception of individuals. It is possible that some people might not like the traits of others but this does not categorize them as bad. One has to have a positive attitude in identifying the good traits of others. Unless we have a broad mind and a clear thought process, how can we adjudge someone to be bad or good? We must remember, if we are pointing out the bad in someone, there are people who would be pointing our bad in us at the same time.

Well, the last angle to categorize people into good or bad would be the bringing up of an individual. They rightly say that home is the first school of a child. It is the way and the culture that a person is brought up in his or her home, makes the person good or bad. Don’t just tell your kids to respect elders, show them by setting examples. Don’t just ask your kids to be courteous and polite, be the same to prove it to them. It’s up to the parents and the family to lead their child into the good or the bad category. Children have the right to become good human beings. They have the ability to learn all good things right form their birth. Teach and train them to become good by setting examples in front of them. If you help the needy today, your child will surely when he grows up. If you take care of your parents, they will take care of you. It is up to you how you mould your child. Start molding your child in to a good human being so that we have a terror free world tomorrow. Let us not forget that the futures of the world are the children today. Show them peace, not violence, to secure their own future.
