Intelligence

Intelligence can be defined in many ways. Several scholars have tried to define intelligence in different ways. Intelligence has been derived from the Latin word “Intelligere” which means to understand. Hence intelligence means to understand anything well and properly.

Intelligence is a combination of certain traits in a person. Traits like ability to understand things, ability to solve problems, skill of taking decisions, presence of mind, abstract thinking and urge to learn. If we notice, all these traits have a scale of higher or lower presence in a person. The mixture of all these traits together form intelligence and they are measured by psychometrics testing however these Intelligence Quotient Tests are not globally accepted because they are more of a general intelligence determiner. What most psychologists now think that intelligence is much above than the general testing results.

With the growing corporate competition and the standard of work, required intelligence has taken a new high. We can call it corporate intelligence when we are talking about traits in an executive. Crisis Management capability is the most sought after trait in Managers these days. A crisis manager must have the ability to think on his feet and have ready solutions to problems, small or big.

When we are talking about Intelligence, we must also talk about a new found intelligence theory called Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is the intelligence of computers or computer operated machines. Robots are the latest inventions with artificial intelligence.

There are several external aspects that support the development of intelligence in a person. The quality of the bringing up of a child determines his intelligence. By quality we do not mean the financial capability of the parents but the teaching and the openness of them to the child.

In this growing world of competition and rapid technological advancement, we must be careful about not letting artificial Intelligence eventually governing human intelligence or else we would be soon ruled by the machines.
