Dignity of Labor

Performing any work without any prejudice is called dignity of labor. Every work is important and has its own value. Respecting one’s profession is very essential. A sweeper is an expert in his profession and a manager is expert in his. Let’s talk about dignity of labor when it comes to the standard of work. If you have a business or say a shop which you own, will you not clean it because you are not a sweeper? What if you do not get a professional sweeper to clean your shop? Will you keep it unclean and dirty? Similarly, if you are working for somebody else or say for some organization and you are at a senior corporate position, you should not feel embarrassed to do some work which is supposed to be done by a subordinate. A leader in fact always sets examples. If you come forward and do some work which is not of your status or below your status, your colleagues will feel proud of you and will rather get inspired by your somber personality.

Many people do not get jobs because of an attitude that they will not do a lesser job than their previous one. There is nothing wrong in doing a lesser job if that is the demand of time. And after all what if we were destined to do a lesser job? What if I was a cobbler anyways? Wouldn’t I respect my profession?

Man is destined to become rich or poor. If you have been destined to be rich, don’t feel proud about it because you will become rich only if your subordinates do the lesser work for you. Just think if you had no one to do the lesser work for you. Wouldn’t you have done it yourself?
