Soft Drink – A Health Hazard

That bottle of Pepsi or Coke feels good when you are thirsty. Some people drink aerated drinks as a fashion statement. But these drinks cause innumerable health hazards if consumed on a regular basis. Lets look at what we are consuming with a can of soft drink that can cause grievous health issues.

Sugar, which is the main supplement of any soft drink, when consumed through soft drink causes development of bacteria, leading to dental problems. All Soft Drinks contain acids which result in erosion of teeth.

Although most of the Soft drinks now come in a low calorie form, it increases hunger for food which in turn increases the in take of calories. A “Diet Drink” has nothing special in it but aspartame, which is a low calorie sweetener, but increases hunger. This also causes obesity.

Soft drinks causes decrease of calcium from the body and gets the calcium deposited in the kidneys because the kidneys have a limit of filtering. The calcium deposits eventually cause kidney stones.

The skin becomes more prone to aging because the texture becomes week if soft drinks are consumed regularly. Since soft drinks lack in minerals and vitamins, the skin does not get the required vitamin that it needs. People quench their thirst by consuming soft drink rather than water or fruit juices, which contain the natural minerals and vitamins required for the skin.

Osteoporosis is caused in bones because of the phosphoric acid present in Soft Drinks. Phosphorus removes Ca2 from the bones and causes porous bones.

All Soft drinks contain caffeine which causes sleeplessness. Caffeine is added in soft drinks to make them more addictive. Caffeine causes dehydration and hyper acidity.

These are some of the hazards that can be caused by sipping Soft Drinks on a regular basis. No doubt it’s a refresher but do not over drink it. Do not substitute it for water and Juices.

Stay Healthy.
