Importance of Effective Communication

You can be highly qualified in any field of education. You can be an Isaac Newton or an Albert Einstein in your qualification. However, to climb the corporate ladder you need to be an effective communicator. These days, every interviewer gives equal importance to the communication skills of the candidate as given to his knowledge.

English is the global business language. To communicate well in English has become must nowadays to get the right job. Communication does not only mean mastery in the English language but it also means how well one expresses oneself regardless of the language. We need to remember, communication is incomplete if the listener is not able to understand the speaker or the reader is unable to interpret the author. One word can change the meaning of the whole sentence. Even putting stress on the wrong word in a sentence can change the meaning of the same. For example (notice the italics),

Michelle went to the Airport on a scooter. (Where did Michelle go?)
Michelle went to the Airport on a scooter. (How did Michelle go?)

You can notice the difference in meaning of the two same sentences when stress is applied on two different words. We can discuss volumes if we go into the depths of Stress and Intonation of speech.

Ill Communication can be categorized into three lacunae, Bad communication, miscommunication and lack of communication.

Bad Communication is a situation where the communicator does not pass the message in the right manner or form. On the other hand, it also might mean that the receiver is not able to interpret the message properly. This causes misunderstanding and the result is not as expected.

Miscommunication is sending wrong messages. A false message sent which further gets more falsified is miscommunication. This causes rumors.

Lack of communication is where the message is not communicated at all to the receiver. This causes mismanagement and halt of process.

The bottom line is that there should be clear, complete and right communication for anything to be performed in the expected manner. Hence, the importance of Right communication.
