Diet coke health facts

Diet Coke is subject to a significant negative campaign over the internet, where allegations range from Diet Coke causing brain tumors, cancer and leukemia up to blindness and seizures. American Cancer Institute has issued some research data which was purported to show that aspartame does not cause cancer, but all it shows is that from half a million people who got their data collected, approximately the same number of aspartame using and not using individuals landed on the cancer list. The scientific integrity of such a research is more than questionable and will not help to dissuade any rumors.

To obtain unbiased and scientifically sound data and answers to the question is Diet Coke safe; furthermore to find unadulterated and impartial health facts in regards to Diet Coke seems to be impossible. Any scientific data in regards to the Diet Coke or any other beverage containing aspartame, NutraSweet or any related sweetener, or the sweeteners themselves, their safety and potential hazardous effects is not obtainable, although existing.

Initial safety tests did indicate that aspartame may cause cancer in rats. It was furthermore suggested that aspartame may be responsible for brain cancer occurrences, but that data got dismissed, because for the approval process, FDA did not require brain research to be included. The low production cost of aspartame, when compared to any other sweetener, will always attract the large companies to use it and they will probably very much protect their golden cow. The Coca-Cola Company has a market cap of almost $ 150 billion, the NutraSweet owner Monsanto almost $ 50 billion, the revenue of the Japanese producer of aspartame (and monosodium glutamate for that matter) Ajinomoto Co., Inc. will surpass $10 billion in this year, there is a lot of financial weight behind this product and being that Donald Rumsfeld was the Chief Executive Officer of G.D. Searle, the future NutraSweet Company, a lot of political weight is accumulated behind it as well.

The health facts that are available in regards to Diet Coke profess nothing less than impeccable data for Diet Coke and aspartame as well. The Coca-Cola Company has a website for Diet Coke, where all the pertinent data in regards to health and safety concerns is listed, furthermore, they address most of the rumors that are spread over the internet, including the brain tumor and dieting reports. Nevertheless, more and more people, who are not affiliated with any big company or government, express concerns regarding Diet Coke and post their own experiences on the internet. Unfortunately, the end user is still kept in the dark and if there are adverse effects, it remains to hope that it will not take as long as it took to brand cigarette smoke as dangerous.
