Demotion of PLUTO – Effects and Affects “the lighter side”

Pluto. Yes, Most of us know the Disney Character “Pluto” by this name. But there is a planet, err “was” a planet called “Pluto” in our solar system till about a couple of years ago. Oh, yes Planet Pluto is no longer a planet of our solar system. Pluto was discovered in 1930. It is very small in size. And “Pluto” the Disney character which is a pet dog, was named after the planet “Pluto” because the character was invented in 1930 as well.

Since the time it was discovered, Pluto was surrounded by controversies. A sect of astronomers never ever believed Pluto to be a planet. In 2006 it was established that Pluto is the largest object of the Kuiber Belt which orbits the sun, but not a planet. It is however called a Dwarf planet now.

Imagine how difficult it has been for us to study all the nine planets of the solar system. I always wished that there were lesser planets. Finally Pluto is no more a planet but alas, I can’t go back to school again. But does suspension of Pluto as a planet also means that our own “Pluto” the dog of Disney also eclipses? Oh, then how boring it will be in his absence.

Just think, the loss of Pluto had so many big and small effects on our day to day lives. All the educational books had to be republished. Parents, who never knew Pluto was demoted, kept arguing with their children about 9 planets. This in turn, confused the kids and the blamed the publisher for not printing Pluto as the Ninth planet in the solar system.

Imagine how it would feel if suddenly someone orders that the 10th finger on our hands is useless so it has to be chopped off at birth.

I feel it has become a habit of the scholars to find new theorems regularly and keep disturbing the common man. So what if Pluto is not a planet anymore? How does it affect my daily routine? Do I get a work off on the death anniversary of Pluto? If “Yes” then I sincerely wish, all the other planet also die soon. Not Earth though, eh!
