Italian dialects

Italians are known for their boisterous personalities and love of speech. Thus, it is not surprising that there are quite a few different Italian dialects. To learn these different Italian dialects, you may want to employ a speech coach. Such a coach will be able to inform you of the various differences between the Italian dialects and will be able to help you to learn how to move your voice tools to create those different sounds.

The exercises that a speech coach will teach you in order for you to learn the various Italian dialects will be indispensable to you for any other dialect you may choose to learn. This is why many famous actors recommend that young actors take speech lessons at least once in their lifetime. Though your speech coach may be specifically teaching you Italian dialects, you can apply those lessons to any other dialect you may need to learn during your lifetime.

You can also learn Italian dialects through acting classes. Many acting schools offer various acting classes on dialects and there is at least usually one class solely dedicated, or at least partially dedicated, to Italian dialects because they are so prevalent in American movies. These classes will not teach you all the tools and nuances about Italian dialects that you would learn from a speech coach, but they will teach you the basics so that you can reproduce the dialects. The acting classes are often much cheaper than a speech coach as well.

If you are truly determined to learn all the various Italian dialects, then you will have to fully immerse yourself in Little Italy in New York at some point in your learning experience. This total immersion will allow you to interact with people who speak with Italian dialects on an everyday basis. It is this experience that will help to make the Italian dialects you have learned second nature to you - you will not even have to think before you can speak in them when asked to.

Remember that mastering any dialect or family of dialects is definitely a challenging task. To not undertake the challenge if you are not ready to commit to practicing your dialects on a daily basis. Practice is truly the only thing that will stand in your way of becoming a master of every different dialect you try to learn. So, practice, practice, practice, until you start dreaming in the dialect you are practicing and speaking in it without thinking about it. Only then will you be able to truly claim that you have mastered the dialect and be able to confidently add it to your skills section of your resume.
