SOCIAL INTERNET NETWORKS – How beneficial are they?

Orkut, facebook, Hi5, and millions of other social networking websites are taking up a big junk of the internet cloud which is so popular that they have become lifeline of millions of young people around the globe.

The point to think about is how do these websites gain so much popularity and are they really benevolent?

Most of the websites that I have come across or have been a part of usually look more like dating sites. The personal profiles that people create look like fairy tales created to attract angels. There are several fields to fill up while you create your profile on any of these sites. One of the fields asks the purpose of opening an account with the site. A lot of members choose “business networking” as an answer too. But when you look into their profile, you would hardly find any business network developed by the through the site.

A lot of them create jazzy profiles probably to attract friends, rather girls and boys vice-versa. People upload their attractive photos on their profile albums on these sites to show how handsome or beautiful they are. Most of these profiles depict the psychology of the person. However, I fail to understand the importance of existence of these websites. Are these only for socializing? Yes I agree that there are people who also discuss important aspects of life and what’s going around in the world. But, what is the final outcome?

This is a debatable issue and can be taken to the highest level of talks. Do these websites really bring about a positive transformation of a human soul, or they are just another source of entertainment? Where do they rank in the table of critics? Do these websites deserve to be discontinued or can they be transformed into a benevolent platform for the betterment of the world culture?
