Handwriting – A lost Art

Keyboard, that’s what children see instead of the pen when they grow up nowadays. Technology has made us cripple and is eventually snatching away our habit of writing. Some years ago, handwriting was considered as the mirror of a person’s character. Handwriting is an art. I still remember, back in school, students used to get bonus marks for their handwritings. “The pen is considered mightier than the sword. But this saying is gradually getting modified to “the keyboard is mightier than the gun”.

Its good that we have the privilege of communicating more effectively through emails and chats. But haven’t the art of writing a letter is a skill which is class apart. Handwriting has several advantages. It is a very good exercise of the fingers. Writing more and more with a pen and paper, makes you concentrate more because it does not have a delete button. Handwriting makes one, more patient and stable.

The art of handwriting is called Calligraphy. There are different styles of handwriting. Calligraphic writing instruments were also available in plenty before the popularity of the computer key board. As stated earlier, handwriting determines the character and nature of a person. It is said that one who writes clearly or whose writing is clearly readable, is a clear hearted person. On the contrary, a person who does not write clearly has shades in his character. Now if people stop writing and use the keyboard more, how will one understand the character of people?

The Art of Handwriting is getting extinct day by day. But imagine, writing a love letter to your better half adding some floral perfume in it, then closing it in an envelope and sending it across, wont it have a better impact than sending her an animated card through e-card websites? Let’s not forget that it is a signature that matters and will always matter more than a digital signature.
