Difference between amoxicillin & penicillin

The difference between amoxicillin as well as penicillin is seen chemically in the accumulation of an amino group to amoxicillin making it polar. This also allows it to penetrate the gram-negative bacteria effectively. The difference in amoxicillin is active in respect to the broad spectrum of bacteria. It is also soluble in comparison to penicillin G. hence amoxicillin can be given orally as it is absorbs better. Amoxicillin as well as penicillin both are identical forms and penicillin helps in curing the infections of the gram positive bacteria, while amoxicillin is useful in curing gram positive and gram negative infections. Except for Penicillin V, other penicillin drugs cannot be taken orally. But amoxicillin can be taken orally. Amoxicillin is effective in curing various infections.
The term Penicillin is often misleading as it gives a feeling that it belongs to the general category of various other types of antibiotics or is some sub category of penicillin. The penicillin can be divided into other natural penicillin as well as semi- synthetic or synthetic penicillin. This natural or synthetic or semi-synthetic penicillin can be divided into more specific groups to form extended spectrum. Yet, all the penicillin that includes amoxicillin and penicillin are known as beta-lactam antibiotics. Penicillin is effective in treating strep. It is also good at curing the dental abscesses and anaerobes in the mouth. Amoxicillin shows a wide spectrum against negative bugs. This choice is made depending on the organisms that may create infection. Similarly, the respiratory infections show a blend of gram positive as well as negative organisms and here amoxicillin is considered to be the right choice.
The dental abscess or any strep throat can be cured with penicillin or amoxicillin, but amoxicillin kills the gram negatives and cause diarrhea. This results in edging to the restricted spectrum of penicillin. Amoxicillin is semi-synthetic penicillin and is taken orally. Semi-synthetic penicillin has antibacterial action identical to ampicillin. Penicillin antibiotics have low toxicity and are produced naturally by the genus penicillium as well as semi-synthetically. Most of the broad spectrum drugs of the antibiotics are from the penicillium molds and they are produced synthetically. However, the positive gram bacteria are employed in the treatment of other infections and diseases. The great difference is penicillin is synthetically produced and amoxicillin is semi-synthetically produced. Regardless of the differences, both amoxicillin as well as penicillin are of immense use in curing ailments and hence are commonly prescribed by the physicians. However, you can rush to them in case you experience some allergic reactions or side-effects.
