Costco drugs

This topic of Costco drugs pretty interesting topic. It involves some interesting policies of the pharmaceutical companies and that of the insurance companies. All the drug price problems revolve basically around these policies. A far as the Costco Company is concerned there are two types of drugs. The first one is the non prescription drugs or the medicines. There are vitamin supplements and herbal products and different other health related products which are covered by this non prescription category. All these medical related products are available under the category if health. We are not considering this health related products category here. We are going to consider the drug category for the prescription drug products only.
This Costco Company has brought in a revolution of sorts as far drug prices are concerned. There is what are called as generic drugs. There is one active chemical present in all different brands of similar drugs. For example if you are taking some drug for blood pressure problem then there will be one generic drug formula only. But different companies will produce different brands using same active generic chemical. The ordinary people are not aware of this fact. They feel if they take different branded drug, they are taking a different type of drug. This Costco Company educates the customers about what these generic drugs are and how they affect the price structure.
If you give them the info about your prescription drug, they will give you low cost generic drug alternative. They will also provide you all the info regarding this generic drug. There are many people who do not have insurance cover. For these people it is very difficult to bet the drugs for their chronic diseases like high blood pressure and diabetics. In the government health assistance programs there are lot many rules and ultimately it may not be economical beneficial as compared to what this Costco company has to offer.
In feb2008, Diovan 320mg/30 were available for $92.99 at Wal-marts and at Rite Aid for $112.99 whereas the same drug was available at $82.49 at Costco Company. This gives the idea about the sort of cost savings these Costco drugs offer to the consumers. The drug Furosemide40mg/100 was available for $14.99at the famous retailer Rite Aid. The same drug was available at Wal-Mart for $10.48. This same drug was available for $05.69. There is tremendous cost difference in this example also. Considering the fact the patients have to take these drugs regularly through out their lives, the costs becomes very important issue. If you are have high blood pressure and diabetic then consider this seriously. You can save up to $2100 per annum in drugs if you take Costco drugs as compared to the most expensive competitor. It is assumed that you are uninsured person in this calculation.
