Black Magic, What is?

Magic has been defined differently by different scholars. Magic, some describe as a supernatural power displayed by a magician or one who practices magic. Some also state it as a practice of hypnotism where the practitioner can take over the psychology of the people watching the practice. This word ‘magic’ has become more popular after the publication of the “Harry Potter” series of fiction by JK Rowling.

Now we do have several definitions of magic. However, Magic also has two categories, White Magic and Black Magic. As it is a universal truth that everything has a dark and a light side. Similarly, magic or sorcery has a light and a dark side. Black Magic is said to be that form of sorcery which is used for negative impact or to gain negative results out of its practice. Black Magic is typically used to harm some one or something or to gain some benefit for oneself without thinking about the consequences on others. There have been many debates on the use of black magic though. There are magicians who think that Black magic cannot be harmful in all cases. Often it is used to relieve difficulties too.

Black Magic is a Supernatural power which is malevolent in nature. However, the point to ponder upon is, whether Back Magic really does exist? We see in movies and read in fictions that Black magic is usually harmful to humans where an effigy is made of the person to be harmed and a hair of that human is planted on the effigy to make a spellbound between the two. It is symbolic that whatever harm you instill on the effigy, directly affects the actual human.

The practice of Black Magic is usually found in folk magic forms and is also very famous in some parts of India’s Bengal region.

Though we have discussed about Black Magic, the un-answered question still remains: Does magic really prove the existence of Supernaturalism?

I would surely put some light on Supernaturalism in the future. Till then, lets remain Spellbound.
