Bettering Technology Vs Human Brain - Are we going towards the Unnatural?

Innovation and Change, these are the two mahamantras of rapid growth in today’s world.
You go to the market to buy a laptop today. You will have thousands of choices suiting your objective of acquiring one. Remember the times when carrying a laptop was a status symbol for the rich only?
A laptop used to be a prized possession a decade back. Today a laptop has become so essential for people like us that we treat it as a wallet or a mobile phone. Not to forget that smallest of colleges imparting MBA courses these days, include a free laptop against the tuition fee to a student. Many of us have completed our Management degrees close to 10 years back. We could never even think of a desktop then. Today, you have 500 dollars, walk into a computer shoppee and you can buy a laptop of your choice which fits your pocket as well. But amongst all the jazz about carrying a laptop, we hardly think of its utility to us. We do not talk about letters anymore because they have been replaced by emails. But just sit and think for once. How many days have passed since you have seen how your hand writing looks? I guess, I have not written 100 words on a piece of paper for around a year now. Love letters with beautiful calligraphy has been replaced by e-cards with graphic designs and animation. Postal Address has been replaced by email address. Telegrams have been replaced by SMS. Oh yeah! Talking about mobile phones; when mobile phones were launched, it was a like a revolution in the world of communication. Everybody was amazed at the invention. People did not know how to operate one but they knew that it’s a device which is like a phone and you can talk to anyone standing anywhere. Mobile phones, a decade earlier, were still devices for talks and sending messages. But they used to cost a Bomb. These days, you get the best of mobile phones at most affordable prices. By best of mobile phones I would like to draw your attention towards receiving emails on your phone. Operating the Internet through your phone is now a common phenomenon. This means that soon even the laptops will be replaced by palm tops which are actually phones. There has been a substantial growth in the lifestyle of people during this decade as compared to the last decade.

Technology enhancement and development is necessary but at what cost? The generation next is loosing its level of intelligence gradually because they have a genie called computer, err, mobile phone. No need to learn the table of twelve because it’s a click away. No need to stand in a queue to get an air ticket, thanks to e-services. No need to attend and organize meets and get-togethers to make new friends. Turn on your computer, connect to the Internet and create a social profile on any social network website. No fun of going to a music shop to hunt for your favorite band’s new album. Connect to the Internet and download the music. Moreover, there is a plethora of companies manufacturing these so called user friendly equipments and instruments. Hence, there is up-gradation every week in the products for the companies to remain in the competition with their rivals.

It is good that we have more and more freedom and the world is moving at a faster pace, but aren’t we loosing our naturality? Don’t we realize that one day, this technology is going to capture our minds and soul and make us its slave? Small things are overlooked but make huge difference sometimes. The generation next is loosing its skill of handwriting. We are going against nature when we carry our office in our bags and then sacrifice our natural sleep and rest at home. After all, everything is happening to earn more and more money, but do we realize that when we die, we go with empty hands?

I am not a negative preacher of technology but my concern is whether we know the limit of its advancement. By all means, are we becoming unnatural day by day? Is in a decade from now, the pen will be completely replaced by the Pen drive or the electronic pen?

We need to understand that we are eventually becoming dependant on technology? Is the technology going to take over the Human Mind tomorrow?
