Online Chatting – Unsafe

Online Social Networks have become extremely popular throughout the internet world. Yahoo Messenger, MSN and other popular chat servers have been there for a long time. Online chat was introduced for people to get connected with each other online and live. This concept was an alternative to phone calls and letters. And the cost was free. Eventually the online chat scenario developed into a dating machine. Most of the present users login to Yahoo or MSN or such chat servers to make friends and date them. However, Yahoo or MSN never introduced this concept for dating.

The online chatting and socializing system is unsafe because of several reasons. Firstly, the identity of the chatter is not confirmed. Many people create fake identities and float them on the internet cloud. There have been many incidents of rape and murder which have led to the linking of the convict and the victim to some social network or chat server.

One should never disclose personal information to the public on social networking websites. It is advisable not to upload pictures on your profile as they can be misused. Never should you go on a date with a person whom you have come to know through social website, unless you are pretty sure about their identity. Try avoiding friend requests from people you don’t know personally. If you want to get connected to more people, always use the friend list of your friends. This is more authentic than linking with strangers. Remember, most of the profiles on the social sites are fake or exaggerated. Do not believe in what is written on the profiles of the individuals who want to be friends with you. Before accepting someone as a friend, always visit their friend list and see what kind of friends they have.

Social networking websites are useful only when you are careful enough to use them. Online chatting is highly risky and unsafe.

Modern English

English, the language has seen massive periodical changes making it easier and easier after every change. Modern English is the English spoken after the Medieval Era. Modern English came into being after the Great Vowel Shift in the 1550. However, even modern English saw some vocabulary changes after. William Shakespeare’s English was considered to be early modern English.

Modern English has a large number of dialects spoken in different parts of the world. American English, British, Australian English can be co related to each other sparing some of the slang and unique words used by these separately. The current English is the widely accepted for of the language. This language though has seen negligible changes and editions in the past few centuries. Because of the diversity of the language, there were a lot of differences in the spellings used for words in different English speaking regions of the world. Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary in 1755, printed in England, solved this problem somewhat. This dictionary gave standard spellings to words which became recognized by all English Speaking regions. Noah Webster’s dictionary published in America in 1828 and had some differences of spellings and pronunciation of words than the British English Dictionary.

Eventually when public education increased the rate of literacy, more and more people started reading books in English and that’s how the language and its use became widespread. The other influence of increased Public literacy was the inclusion of words from different languages into the English Language. A word like “bazaar” is an Arabic word which is acceptable in English. The broader broadcast of radio and then the television, the increase of public libraries also helped the people around the world to pick up a Standard English vocabulary pattern and the accent. English is the largest spoken language in the world after Chinese. But the Chinese language leads the table only because of China’s population. So English remains as the most widely used language and hence it is accepted as the Corporate and the Diplomatic language of the world.

Have Indian Voters become Mature?

The 2009 Indian General Parliamentary Elections saw a lot of ups and downs and surprises for Indian Politics. The Indian Political scene is mainly lead by two political parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies and the Indian National Congress and its allies. The BJP and its allies are together called as the NDA and the Congress and its allies are called the UPA.

The UPA was running the Government of India for the past 5 years. In the fresh elections held in April – May 2009, the Congress led UPA has again come back to power for the next 5 years with unexpected results. It was almost certain that the UPA would not be able to form the government again this time because of the anti incumbency voting that was expected to happen.

The chaos over the Nuclear Deal and the rising prices due to recession was seen as the reason for a possible loss of the UPA Government. The NDA was almost certain that Mr. Lal Krishna Advani would be the next Prime Minister of India as they thought that the NDA would surely win the elections. However, the election results showed a result completely unexpected. The Congress led UPA got very high number of votes and formed the new government.

The people of India have grown out of the conventional voting policy. They are no more carried away by religious politics and they can no more be convinced by negative campaigning. They have stopped voting for people who show their faces to the people once in five years. What the citizens of India now want is stability and a Government which is more practical and in league with the world. People of India want more jobs and more foreign currency flowing inside the country. They do not want any more Temple against mosque politics. They do not want to India to remain backward. They want young and corporate governance and strategies which will make India soar high in the near future.

How has India seen such a change? With India named as one of the biggest developing economies of the world, the awareness of the Indian people has also increased. More and more youngsters have started taking interest in the mainstream political and economic welfare of India. They have seen how the present government faired to keep the Indian economy afloat during the recession period. Indians want more employment and they have seen how the UPA government has been able to manage the job cut crisis. The nuclear deal which the UPA government signed has brought India closer to the world and has benefited India in an enormous way. On the other hand, the people of India noticed how the NDA and the Left Front opposed the signing of the Nuclear deal and also witnessed the unacceptable hue and cry created by the NDA and the Left Front to the signing of the Nuclear Deal by the UPA Government. All the shameful obstructions laid by the opposition parties in the way of signing of the Nuclear deal actually went against the NDA and the Left Front. The consequence was the shameful defeat of the two so called strong political parties during the recent General Elections.

The Indian voter has become mature over the years. They have understood the importance of democracy and they have learnt how to run a democratic country. They have clearly stated to the political parties of India through their votes that the people are the ones who have the right to run and govern the country. they have expressed clearly that the representatives that they choose need to work for the people and only then they will get a chance to continue in the office as a Member of Parliament or else they will be thrown out.

Crosswords Puzzles

The word puzzle called Crossword has been an important part of most of the News Papers and Magazines all over the world. Solving a crossword puzzle daily is seen as an exercise of vocabulary and the brain. People who are trying to master a particular language must seek to solve crossword puzzles everyday.

As per definition, a Crossword is a word puzzle that usually takes a square or a rectangular shape forming a grid of black and white boxes which are interlinked with each other. Every word leads to another word formation. Hints to the desired word are given below the puzzle. The squares on which words would begin are numbered and these numbers are the leads to the hints of the words. The white cells have to be filed by words and the black cells have nothing to do with in a crossword. They simply separate the desired answer with others. Answers are filled across and down. And any letter of the words filled will lead to another word either across or down. Crosswords can be easy to more difficult categorized into quick and cryptic clued.

Crossword puzzles have had their own set of glorious past. The most significant incident related to crosswords is the series of crossword puzzles that appeared in 1944 in The Daily Telegraph. The crosswords provided hints of the Operation Overlord which was secretly being organized by the Allied forces against Germany. The puzzle contained hints to all the secret locations that were related to the planned attacks. When interrogated, the creator of the Crossword, a school teacher, it was found that the hints were just coincidence and he knew nothing about the Operation Overlord.

Solving a crossword helps improve the brain cells, vocabulary and memory of a person. It is seen as an exercise of the brain. So pick up a News paper and start solving one now.

Bullock Carts

You might be thinking, why does someone have to talk about Bullock carts in this modern world of fast cars? Yes you are right but then, Bullock Cart is the oldest form of vehicle of the human civilization. And the bullock cart is the only ancient vehicle which is still in use today. Of course the concept of traveling by vehicle would have been never developed if there were no invention of the wheel.

The wheel was first invented for pottery; later people thought that it could be utilized to move things from one place to another with ease. This though could have given birth to the cart. For centuries the cart was pulled by humans and not animals. Later when human became more intelligent and started getting innovative ideas, they thought of getting animals into the act of pulling a cart. They discovered that the bull was of no use when it came to giving milk, so they used the bull for plowing the fields and pulling the carts. Eventually, the Bullock cart became the most important transport vehicle of the world. Bullock Carts got a promotion when they got employed with armies to pull battle equipments to the war zones or battle fields. However, since the bullock carts were slow, horse equipped carriages were developed and used in larger numbers for transporting people. The carriage is said to be the oldest form of public transport or the first taxi.

Carriages faded away with invention of cars and scooters but Bullock carts remained in the foray till date. In countries where there is a lack of infrastructural development and the economy is not that sound, Bullock carts are still used as mode of transport in villages and suburbs. Bullock teams and carts have built countries and towns in their ancient history by paving ways and carrying loads. Hence, the bullock cart is a heritage and not a vehicle to be forgotten.

Atoll

Atoll is a coral island or an island of coral which forms a barrier to a lagoon. It either encircles a lagoon partially or completely. The term “Atoll” was generated from a language Divehi spoken in Maldives. Atoll hence means an island usually formed by corals or volcanic eruptions and which form a lagoon in the sea.

Maldives, the country is formed by 1200 islands arranged in 26 atolls. The scenic beauty is stupendous.

Charles Darwin had first explained how an Atoll is formed. In simple language, Oceanic Volcanoes erupt and form islands in the sea. It takes years for the mountainous structure created by the volcano to subside and recede. By the time it recedes biotic growth occurs around the volcanic mountain near the surface of the sea. These biotic remain near the surface and after the mountainous structure recedes below sea level, the biotic structures, corals, form a barrier or wall or reef. They form a ring in the shape of the receded volcanic mountain. The water inside the reef is called a lagoon and the remaining land together forms an island. Atolls are the product of growth of tropical marine organisms and hence they are only formed in warm waters of the tropics.

Saya De Malha Bank is the world’s largest Atoll with an area of 40,000 sq km. It is located in the western Indian Ocean and close to Madagascar. It is on the South East of Seychelles. The closest land to this Atoll is the Agalega Islands, a dependency of Mauritius. Mauritius administers Saya De Malha as its exclusive economic zone.

Atolls have shallow water bed and hence the flora and fauna are different from the main sea. Most of the lagoons have beautiful scenery and are tourist attractions. Maldives, as said earlier has only Atolls and no major land; hence it is receding and sinking every passing year.

Pandit Ravi Shankar

Indian instruments are divided in four classes, Tat Vadya (string instrument), Sushir Vadya (wind instrument), avanadya Vadya (Class of percussion, bearing a surface made of leather), Ghan Vadya (class of percussion which produces sound by friction of two objects).

Pandit ravi Shankar was a Sitarist, hence it will be worthwhile first to introduce this instrument to our honorable readers. The instrument is made of wood, pumpkin shell and strings. We will not go into detail of the structure of this instrument to avoid rambling.

In 18th century Khusro Khan, an eminent music master invented this instrument. In Persian, Seh means three and taar means string. So initially this instrument was furnished only with three strings. In course of time it underwent a lot of changes and sophistication. In history of its progress the names of two music maestros are worth mentioning – Raza Khan and Masit Khan.

In our present venture we would make a humble effort to bring forth a brief life sketch of a Colossus in the field of Sitar – Pandit Ravi Shankar. Pandit Ravi Shankar was a pet disciple of Ustad Allaudin Khan of Maihar of MP. He is younger brother of Pandit Uday Shankar, an innovator in Indian dance stream and an apex dancer not only of the century but of the posterity. Ravi Shankar’s father’s name was Shyama Shankar who was an ardent lover of music and an erudite too. He had a deep attachment to dance as fine Art. Last twenty years of his life was spent in US and Europe.

Pandit Ravi Shankar was born on 7th of April 1920 at Varanasi of India. He is the youngest amongst four brothers. Initially he received dance lessons from his brother, Uday Shankar and till eighteen years of his age he remained an active member of his troop. Approximately at this time, i.e. 1935, he first came into contact of Ustad Allaudin Khan. By his ingenuity, intrinsic aptitude towards music and loyalty towards his master, Ravi Shankar soon won the heart of Ustad Allaudin Khan. So much so, that he went to the extent of making Ravi Shankar, his son in law. He got his daughter Annapurna (who was equally a mature Sitarist) married to his favorite student in 1941.

Nothing could stop Pandit Ravi Shankar in his race towards his goal, which is o make Sitar, a globally acknowledged instrument. By his mesmerizing performance he overwhelmed people all over the world. He is blessed with Midas touch and the melody that his fingers produce; plucking the magic strings of his Sitar cast a spell on the listeners. As he proceeded in his career, the horizon of his name and fame went on further and further receding forever and still receding. He has established himself as a living legend and a trend setter. His main achievement lies in integrating Indian music with that of Western. His “East meets West” has become a Hallmark for his style of sonority. Winning f national and international awards is a very common thing for a celebrity of such magnitude. His joint performances with is Western counter parts will last forever in the minds of his listeners.

Pandit Ravi Shankar made some alteration in the instrument too. He replaced the ‘Jod’ string with ‘Thet Kharaj’, Pianissimo Octave (Key Note) string and added the facility to play the instrument one Octave more. Does the scope of displaying a Sitarist’s skill was enhanced. Numerous Orchestral compositions are attributed to Pandit Ravi Shankar. He has been holding the post of Chief Director of National Orchestra of AIR for a considerable period of time and directed music in a great number of Indian films like Godan, Anuradha, Kabuliwala, Meera and others. He founded a music school in Mumbai in 1962 – “Kinnar School of Music”. Besides his own daughter Anushka, Uma Shankar Mishra, Gopal Krishna, Jaya Bose, Shambhu Das, Shamim Ahmed, Shankar Ghosh, Kartik Kumar and George Harrison are indebted to Pandit Ravi Shankar under whose aegis they could attain their ambition of becoming accomplished Sitarist.

Amidst numerous laurels, Pandit Ravi Shankar received the most coveted accolades that the country could honor any musician with, of which Padma Bhushan is one that he received in 1967. The world prays for a long life for this great maestro – Pandit Ravi Shankar.
