Myth: Breast cancer affects women only.
Fact: This is the biggest prevailing myth. Breast cancer also affects men but the chances are rare. The incidence is 0.9 percent of all cases.

Myth: Only women with a family history of breast cancer are at risk.

Fact: Always keep in mind that the family history of a person with breast cancer only suggests that women are at much higher risk than the others who are at average. It is a fact that more than 70 percent of females who are detected with breast cancer have no specialized risk factors for the ailment.

Myth: Breast cancer is contagious.
Fact: It is common belief of people that breast cancer is a contagious disease. But the truth is-it is certainly not! Changes in one woman’s cells cannot affect the cells of another woman in any way.
Myth: Drinking coffee increases the risk of breast cancer.

Fact: It is nothing more than a false myth. Coffee in no case can cause breast cancer. Instead, in many cases, coffee helped in preventing cancer.

Myth: Antiperspirants and deodorants can cause breast cancer.
Fact: It is entirely baseless to believe that deodorants and sprays cause breast cancer. These sprays only prevent the body from purging dangerous toxins. It is incorrect to say that when antiperspirants actually work to stop underarm perspiration, certain toxins get trapped inside the body. These toxins purportedly get deposited in the lymph nodes below the arms, leading to cell mutations and breast cancer. But the concept of these sprays with breast cancer is completely false.

Myth: Breast-feeding can result in breast cancer.
Fact: The above statement is totally false as breast feeding helps in decreasing the woman’s risk of breast cancer.

Myth: Women suffering from breast cancer should avoid getting pregnant.
Fact: Studies have shown that metabolic and hormonal modifications that occur at pregnancy period do not notably affect the risk of getting affected by breast cancer. Also neither the number of pregnancies nor the coincidence between occurrence of breast cancer and pregnancy seems to have any visible effect on breast cancer diagnosis.
It is important to know the facts to steer away doubts about breast cancer. Moreover, getting the right information can save you from an unfortunate outcome in the long run. Breast cancer is treatable when diagnosed in the early stages and there is no reason to believe in unreasonable myths any more.
