Pets: What Makes Them Stand Apart from Others?

A pet whether a cat, a dog, a parrot or even a small white mouse, is an inseparable part of the lives of most pet lovers and families in the world. For many owners, pets are beings, which need a lot of love and care and most of them go all out to provide them the best of medical and dietary care, besides being extremely cautious in choosing accessories for them. For still others, pets are more of a status symbol and they make every effort to tend to them and dress them up fashionably, besides giving them fancy names.

However, when it comes choosing a pet, pet lovers are always faced by the most nagging question as to which animal makes a better pet. While a large number of pet lovers feel that a dog is man’s best friend and hence the best pet, there are others, who argue that cats are better as they are comparatively less fussy. Still others would find parrots a more suitable choice, while many children, drawing an inspiration from the story of ‘Stuart Little’ would like to own a white mouse.

While all pets have their unique qualities that set them apart from each other, the choice of a pet essentially depends on the person, who wants to own one. For most, dogs would be a better choice as they are known for their faithfulness to their owners. However, a majority of the dogs are dependent on their masters and like to follow them where ever they go. Cats are comparatively different and like to be on their own. And then, with dogs, being ferocious and protective towards their domain, there is always a possibility that they would attack visitors, whereas this is not the case with cats, who can easily be kept indoors.

Coming to parrots, again their choice depends on the person, who wants to own them. Most people prefer talking parrots and hence, are considered ideal companions for loners and children. If proper care is given to them, parrots can outlive dogs and cats. White mice, which often end up on laboratory tables for experiments, are also good pets. They are relatively inexpensive as compared to other pets and are very easy to please as they enjoy nibbling on seeds, uncooked cereal grain, and lettuce.

However, the need proper care and require a fresh supply of clean water daily, besides clean bedding. Like other pets, white mice can be trained too. So the choice of a pet evidently depends on the owner for each animal has its own advantages and disadvantages. Besides one’s own inclination, pet lovers should also see whether the surroundings where they are living are favourable for their pet or not. For instance, dogs require plenty of open space to run and move around, while cats can be comfortable indoors as well.

Similarly, parrots and white mice would do well in a situation where they do not face any danger to their lives from filth, disease and predator like animals.
