October 31st is the day when the Celtic festival of Halloween is celebrated. Besides the popular trick-o-treat activity, wearing Halloween costumes is another famous ritual. Traditionally Halloween costumes were those of monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches or devils. Black and red, scary, shining ones were favored to give people the jitters. Large teeth, red eyes, funny hairstyles were the Halloween costumes in earlier days. But now the costumes are changing, becoming more contemporary, fashionable and innovative.Stores across the country have come up with new and stylish costumes. These costumes include the characters from television shows, movies, pop culture icons and even political ones. In 2005, BIG research conducted a survey for the National Retail Federation in the US and discovered that 63.3 per cent of consumers bought a costume for Halloween spending about $ 38 on an average. The figure has shot up now and has reached almost $ 50 on an average. There are people who still make Halloween costumes at home and come up with great ideas.
