We all have been reading stories of Batman, Superman, Spiderman and Mandrake. These are all fictional superheroes. Batman protects the Gotham city from the villains especially the Joker. Spiderman is a teenager who is a looser otherwise but gets power to fight the bad characters like Green Goblin, Sand Man, after he is stung by a spider. Superman though has a different story.
He was born on planet Krypton and he landed on earth as a child after his father who was a scientist sent him. Superman has been fighting the bad and the villains since 1938. Mandrake is a super magician and along with his friend Lothar the Powerful, lives in Xanadu. He has been fighting the evil through his magical powers. There are many other comic characters which have been very popular as superheroes across the world.
When we were kids, we always used to like these comics. But have we ever thought about, why these superheroes were created?
Every boy and girl has a dream of doing something unique for the world. All of us want to acquire some powers so that we can become heroes and fight the evil. If you notice, the villains in these comic stories are also very powerful and they too have super powers. The characters depict what one wants to be. They reflect our inner soul and our desire. The concept of these superhero characters is also a result of our inferiority complex. A question that every child asks himself after reading these super hero comics is “what if I was Superman?” So this reflects our imagination.
We have always had super heroes in our history too. We had great men with great power to fight against evil. Lord Jesus can be called a superhero because he saved humanity. We have so many other examples from the history of mankind which show that there were real superheroes who existed.
The popularity of the comic super hero characters also presents a subtle fact. The high popularity of these characters depict that people still need super heroes to stop the crimes that are taking place in our towns and villages. Somewhere at the back of our minds we feel that the ongoing militant activities need a superhero to stop. It also shows that people do not trust the governments any more, and hence a superhero should arrive. No doubt the present scenario of the world really approves of a superhero. But the irony is that neither we can become superheroes nor do we have complete independence. One way or the other we, the citizens of the world, are weak enough to fight evil. A superhero is present inside everyone. We just need to be courageous and be ready to fight this huge empire.
“There's a hero if you look inside your heart you don't have to be afraid of what you are There's an answer if you reach into your soul And the sorrow that you know will melt away
And then a hero comes along with the strength to carry on and you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive so when you feel like hope is gone look inside you and be strong and you'll finally see the truth that a hero lies in you” – Mariah Carey.
What all of us need to do is to sit up and come together and take a vow that we will not tolerate anymore violence and atrocities on us. We will fight back and wipe the bad people out.
