Ego – A False state of mind

Let’s first understand what Ego is. It is a state of mind of a person defining what he or she thinks of himself. Ego is a psychological behavior of a human being. Ego is a superfluous identity of a person.

On birth, the child knows nothing about himself. One does not even know that one is a human being. The first thing that a child notices is the people around it. The mother is the first naturally identified object by the child. A child does not know whether he or she is good looking or ugly. It is the expression of the mother through which a child understands that he or she is good looking. No mother thinks that her child is ugly. More people of the child’s family join in the habitat of the new born child, gradually. As the child grows up, it starts identifying itself in a manner which it’s parents identify. The child thinks he is good because his mother thinks that of him.

Ego is always shaken, always in search of appreciation it. That's why one continuously asks for attention. This happens because one has got attention all the time at his home.
One gets the idea of who he is from others. It is not a direct experience. However, when the child gets into the real world, he observes that there are other people who behave in a different manner than him. They think differently and they act different.

It is here that the EGO shatters. The person, who lives with a high ego and thinks that he has been correct always, faces a situation when every other person starts avoiding him. Finally a person gets confused between right and wrong and gets an immense shock on his self respect. Ego is a false vanity and it has to be left behind to gel with the world. A person gets an ego from his parents and from no where else. Ego eventually becomes pride and all know that Pride has a Fall.
