Fraudulent Swine Flu Aids on the Internet

America's FDA or Food and Drug Administration has reportedly been looking out for fraudulent opportunistic businesses that are try to take advantage of the current panic around swine flu, to sell a few health supplements that they claim will help cure the disease. The FDA made public announcements against one internet business recently, Rebuilder Medical, for offering a fraudulent swine flu protection pack with shampoos, lotions and other bathroom essentials that it calls SilverCure. The contents of the pack are claimed to be affected because they contain trace quantities of silver. The FDA reminds the public that silver is not scientifically proved by the FDA to help in any way with swine flu; it is therefore not legal to claim such benefits in marketing literature. The FDA later warned that website to retract these claims immediately under penalty of criminal proceedings.

Several other websites are said to be under investigation by the FDA for making unverifiable claims for their products, for their abilities to fight swine flu. There are health supplements being sold with tall tales to support their benefits against swine flu, prescription medicines sold over-the-counter, and various flu defense kits. This is the reason, the FDA claims, that a panic over disease is never a good idea. There will always be a confidence tricksters waiting to take advantage of the anxious and the vulnerable, trying to make a buck with health scams such as these in a climate of panic. The problem is so bad that the government is asking the public to bring to its attention any dubious product advertising out there claiming benefits against swine flu.

There are many businesses online sale products impregnated with silver, colloidal silver or something else, that they claim will help you against swine flu. None of these however has any reasonable grounds for such a claim. An online business called Swine Flu Gone, sells an ionic silver spray that is as fraudulent as it can get, with shameful claims of powers against swine flu.

Another website sells secret concoctions of colloidal silver that it claims the CDC withholds from the public. These websites also sell swine flu kits with gloves and wipes at prices that go way beyond unreasonable. The public may not be aware of it, but simple devices such as gloves and surgical masks are considered by the government to be medical products; they must therefore pass approval. It is not safe to buy surgical masks under the impression that they're just pieces of cloth that anybody can make.

The government does not recommend that the general public use masks and gloves all the time as a way of protecting themselves. These are only recommended for people who are direct contact with those who are sick. It is up to the public to stay alert to people who take advantage of public health situations.
