Dandruff, medically termed as “scurf” is flaking of dead skin cells from the scalp. People of all age groups have an adequate amount of casting off white flakes in the form of dandruff in common, but the problem is aggravated when large amounts of flaking occurs from the scalp leading to many problems.

Causes : Dandruff can be caused due to excessive heat or cold, sudden change in climatic conditions, stress, usage of gels, creams, hair oils and lotions which causes allergic reactions. The main culprit for dandruff production is fungus called “Malassezia furfur”. This fungus is normally found on every person's skin surface to produce sebum which is commonly called skin oil on the scalp. The excess production of sebum would upset the lifecycle of skin cells causing unusual death of the skin cells on the scalp leading to dandruff. Food rich with sugar and yeast may also result in increased white flaking with itching and redness of the scalp.

Remedies : There are many remedies to overcome this problem. However if the condition doesnot come under control with these common handy remedies, the best solution would be to look out for an appointment with a dermatologist.
Some of the common remedies for dandruff reduction can be listed as below:
